Mike Sexton at Party Poker

Mike Sexton is a veteran of the game of poker, which he discovered as many players of his generation while attending the university where he became a fierce player in parallel to his studies. Yet he joined the army in 1970, at the end of the Vietnam War. At the end of his service, he became a salesman for 2 years. But he soon realized that he could earn much more money playing poker, so why continue a boring job when you can have a fun job and make tons of money. He therefore became a professional player in his twenties.

Having moved to Las Vegas to play full time he became good friend with one of the poker legends, Stu Ungar. Upon the death of the latter, he is the one who delivered the eulogy. Mike Sexton is a player who has successfully reached many final tables and has nothing to prove as his results speak for themselves. He is very strong in many poker variations and excels so-called mized games tournaments. But beyond his impressive results in poker that allow him to accumulate more than $ 3,600,000 in winnings, Mike Sexton is also one of the most recognized ambassadors of the game from 2002 on for his comments on the World Poker Tour.

Alongside Vince Van Pattern he became in effect the technical expert of the game. Even if the technical quality of the TV program broadcasting the WPT does not always allow him to present his vision of the game, it helped tremendously to make the game known all over the world. He then extends his activities to Partypoker, Cardplayer and then finally Gambling Times. He also created the poker Tournament of Champions, which brought together all the winners of the past year. Mike's nickname is 'The Ambassador of Poker' and his involvement has important for the game. He rarely travels outside the U.S. though.

With WSOP 47 cashes since 1984, Mike Sexton is one of the legends of the World Series Of Poker. He competes in tournament regularly and he has got one WSOP bracelet in 1989, plus numerous places of honor or final tables. He won his only title in 1989 but in 2000 for the Main Event he managed to place a beautiful 12th. In 2008, he went close to a new title by finishing 4th in the $ 10,000 Pot Limit Hold'em World Championship. Of course Mike Sexton can not participate in the WPT as ihe is one of the commentators, otherwise he would certainly have reached final tables there as well. He once participated in a special broadcast of the World Poker Tour for his book with a few other famous authors.

Mike Sexton acknowledges to have much less time to participate in tournaments since he devoted himself to represent the poker worldwide at the WPT. Nevertheless, he managed a strong performance in 2006, when he won the Tournament of WSOP Champions and earned the $1,000,000 prize for the winner, defeating Daniel Negreanu in the heads-up confrontation.

Mike also wrote 'World Poker Tour: Shuffle Up And Deal' and participated in the DVD edition about the raise and fall of Stu Ungar.
